Smart monitoring of photovoltaic plants by automatic acquisition of data

keywords ENERGY EFFICIENCY, PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS, PHOTOVOLTAICS, PYTHON, GUI, TOOLKIT, FORM-BASED APPLICATION, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

Reference persons ALESSANDRO CIOCIA, FILIPPO SPERTINO

Research Groups SOLAR

Thesis type EMBEDDED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATIONS

Description The thesis work consists of two parts: the first part consists in creating a monitoring system based on open source software and hardware. It will consist of a raspberry electronic board as a central body and a pre-existing monitoring software that will be modified and optimized. The raspberry board will be connected via MODBUS to a power meter that will be installed on one or more POLITO photovoltaic generators to measure the active power and other electrical / energy variables. Under the supervision of the teachers, the student will take care of the hardware, software and data processing aspects. The effectiveness of the tool will be demonstrated by analyzing the production data collected in order to highlight any under-production and / or malfunctions in the monitored plants. The programming of the raspberry is done in python
The thesis (word document) will be structured as follows:
1- general theory on photovoltaics
2- description of the SOLAR123 and METERN project
3- description of the monitoring system implemented and of the hardware and software changes compared to the reference open source system
4 - monitoring and analysis of data, calculation of plant performance and verification of the absence of irregularities
5 conclusions

For May info, it is possible to consult the reference page of the open source project which will be used as an initial step
