Description In rural, peripheral and low density areas, mobility and accessibility take on connotations and pose challenges that are difficult to understand and solve. The dispersion and rarefaction of settlements and services, depopulation, ageing and loss of community ties are just some of the factors that result in territorial systems characterised by a highly car-dependent mobility demand, with serious consequences in terms of transport sustainability and equity of access to resources. The topic lends itself to various possibilities of analysis, including (but not limited to) the study of spatial accessibility through GIS analysis, qualitative analysis through ethnographic approaches, analysis of the adequacy of possible alternatives to the private car and traditional public transport, etc.
