Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATION

Description The activity is focused on the structural analysis of an aluminum wing panel. The considered structure has been already manufactured. It is a wing-shaped panel stiffened by L-shaped aluminum stringers connected to the panel through bolted joints. The first stage of the study involves the design of a finite element model of the structure, using a commercial FE software. An important focus of the work should be related to the modelisation of the bolted joints and on the simulation of the interactions that exist between the panel and the stringers. Once the model is established, this will be tested against the real one through an experimental campaign. The test will be performed on the panel instrumented with strain and displacement sensors. The results coming from these sensors will be used to assess the accuracy of the developed FE model. A significant attention, in this phase, should be dedicated to evaluation of the accuracy of the bolted joints' simulation.

Required skills Knowledge of at least one FEM software (Patran/Nastran, Abaqus); Good knowledge of a programming language; Basic knowledge of the working principles of strain and displacements' sensing systems.
