Description A key technology for the control of aircraft structures is the shape-sensing, i.e., the possibility to reconstruct the deformed configuration of a component (for example, a wing) without the need to know the applied loads and the material but starting from the geometry, the boundary conditions and some discrete measurements of strains. One of the approaches to shape-sensing is the so-called inverse Finite Element Method (iFEM), already applied by the AESDO Research Group to beam, frame and thin-walled structures (even wing-boxes).
Aim of the thesis is to extend the methodology to a simple wing structure, modeled as a beam but with a generic cross-section (airfoil).
