Description The effectiveness of a drug depends not only on its chemical structure, but also on the release of the molecules in the body. In order to increase drugs bio-availability, APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) can be loaded on an inorganic nanoporous carrier. Indeed, the carrier, by causing the “amorphization” of the API (which is adsorbed at the carrier surface in its amorphous form), allows a quicker release of the drug and a control of the kinetics of release.
The research activity here proposed is based on the loading of two (synergic) APIs in a mesoporous silica carrier (with or without ordered porosity). Both traditional (wet impregnation) and innovative (supercritical CO2) loading techniques will be employed. The study will focus on the loading procedure and the release of the drug in pseudo-physiological conditions; moreover, experimental activities will encompass several techniques of characterization typical of material science.
