Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL

Description In forensic medicine, the identification of an individual's certain age is based on the reading and categorization of the profile of wisdom teeth by scanning panoramic OPT radiographs. The thesis, in collaboration with Struttura Complessa di Medicina Legale of Molinette hospital, aims to design and develop an innovative automatic algorithm which, through image analysis techniques and artificial intelligence (for example, neural networks of deep type), allows to perform the identification of the age in a completely automatic way, also providing an estimate of the prediction reliability level in a percentage form.
Once the most suitable algorithm for this purpose has been identified, the training can be further refined by registering a very large number of Rx OPTs (ideally up to 10 thousand OPTs) and using the annotations provided by a expert forensic dentist, who will actively collaborate in all phases of the experimental thesis.

Required skills Programming, Basics of Machine Learning and Data Science. Basics of Image Processing are a plus.
