The Language Centre (CLA) of Politecnico di Torino has long been committed to promoting foreign language learning and improving its teaching resources. The CLA not only organises language courses and deals with the related administrative work, but also helps students develop their foreign language skills through the use of learning resources available in its open access computer lab.
In 2007 Politecnico di Torino introduced IELTS
as the mandatory foreign language exam, due to the following reasons: IELTS is recognized by a growing number of universities worldwide; its "academic" version covers technical and scientific topics; results are on a scale of 1 to 9 and consequently candidates can obtain an internationally recognized certificate corresponding to their actual knowledge of English.
In the last few years, the number of foreign students at Politecnico di Torino has notably increased; therefore the CLA is committed to organizing Italian language courses, as well as social occasions for international students to meet fellow students from other countries.
The CLA's services are student-oriented but the Centre also strives to promote the study of foreign languages amongst all staff members of Politecnico di Torino.
The CLA aims at widening the range of its language service, including the coordination and promotion of translations of Politecnico’s official documents.
