Students are exempted from having one of the above-listed certificates if, upon enrolment, they provide a stamped declaration/certificate written on official letter headed paper, which certifies that:
a) you have attended at least one school year at a high school in which the medium of instruction is English. In this case the school must issue a certificate stating that “The medium of instruction is English”.
b) you have a foreign high school diploma which is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or you have a higher qualification awarded by a higher education institution in which the medium of instruction is English. In both cases the school must issue a certificate stating that “The medium of instruction is English”.
With regard to points “a” and “b”, please note that diplomas awarded by high schools in the USA, UK , Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand do not need to include the phrase “The medium of instruction is English”.
B2 English language level during a transitional periodIn order to assess knowledge of English (B2 level), Politecnico di Torino takes into consideration the table “Certificates accepted or exemptions in substitution for IELTS at Politecnico di Torino - a.y. 2018/19” for the following categories:
  • students who first enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme at Politecnico di Torino up to a.y. 2018/19: the transitional period will last until a.y. 2020/21 (if they graduate by December 2021);
  • students with an Italian Bachelor’s degree  who apply for admission to a  Master’s degree programme (admission requirement):  the transitional period will last until a.y. 2021/22 included;
  • students with a non-Italian Bachelor’s degree who apply for admission to a  Master’s degree programme (admission requirement):  the transitional period will last until a.y. 2019/20 included;
  • incoming mobility students participating in a Double degree programme who apply for admission to a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree programme (admission requirement): the transitional period will last until a.y. 2019/20 included;
  • students who apply for admission to a programme for which the knowledge of English is an admission requirement  (i.e., English-taught programmes, …);
  • students who apply for admission to the selection process for Politecnico di Torino Doctoral Research programmes (35th cycle) – admission requirement.
C1 English language level for the purpose of tuition fee exemptionFor students enrolling in Bachelor’s degree programmes in which the first year is taught in English, starting from a.y. 2019/20, for the purpose of tuition fee exemption, Politecnico di Torino takes into consideration the table of certificates and scores for the C1 English level.
