ITALIAN LANGUAGE
REQUIREMENTS

If you apply for admission to an Italian-taught Bachelor’s degree programme and you have a non-Italian high school diploma, you must prove your knowledge of the Italian language: this is an admission requirement.
For this reason, you must have an Italian language certificate (PLIDA B1 level or another certificate accepted in substitution for PLIDA) when you apply online from the Apply@polito platform on Politecnico website. You must show your original Italian language certificate to the Incoming Mobility Office before enrolment, as provided for in the Call for applications for admissions to the Bachelor’s degree programmes a.y. 2020/21You will find the details of your Italian language certificate in your personal page of the Teaching Portal – “Online Services” tab – “View your data and change your address” portlet – “Personal details”.
(update of 24th March 2021)*
*On 23/03/2021 The Academic Senate has approved the extension of the deadline to submit the English language certificate for students enrolled in a.y 2020/21 who submitted the Language declaration for covid-19 to 31st December 2021If the graduation takes place before the 31st December, the deadline to submit the certificate would be the one for the registration for the final examination.

If you apply for admission to an English-taught Bachelor’s degree programme, you must pass an Italian language exam (A2 level) in order to earn your Bachelor’s degree (graduation requirement).
Politecnico di Torino adopted the PLIDA certificate (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) for the assessment of its students’ knowledge of Italian. You must get a PLIDA  A2 level certificate or another certificate accepted in substitution for PLIDA or take the university Italian language exam.
The Italian language course will be included in your Annual Personal Study Plan as credit overload. This means that its credits do not count towards the 180-credit threshold required for graduation and are not counted within the possible 12 extra credits
EXAM PREPARATION
The CLA offers self-study materials (video lectures for A0, A1 and A2 levels) and classes for each level of Italian. More information is available on the CLA website and via ticketing service (TICKET tab on your personal page of the Teaching Portal).
On the CLA website you can find out more about exam sessions, registrations and exam description.
You can register for the PLIDA exam online from your personal page of the Teaching Portal (LINGUE tab) during the registration timeframe for each session.
RECOGNITION OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE EXAM CREDITS
If you have an Italian language course in your Personal Study Plan.
You can take the PLIDA exam through Politecnico or sit a university Italian language exam in accordance with the rules illustrated in the Student Guide. In both cases, if you pass the exam, it will be recorded in your transcript and you will gain the corresponding credits. You do not need to take any further action.
If you already have a PLIDA certificate obtained outside Politecnico (or another certificate accepted in substitution for PLIDA), you can ask for the recognition of the Italian exam credits. You must show your original certificate to the Office of Student Services that will make a copy of your certificate and return the original back to you. The Office of Student Services will record the Italian language exam in your transcript and you will automatically gain the corresponding credits.
