The thesis application states the general topic of the thesis.
The thesis application is compulsory and must be submitted before you start writing your thesis (even if you carry out your thesis project abroad, at a private company or at another university).
You can submit your thesis application provided that you have included your thesis credits in your Annual Personal Study Plan.
It is an online application and you need to submit it within the deadlines available in the thematic calendar.
Follow these steps:
- find a Supervisor (faculty member or external lecturers with a teaching contract with Politecnico). For details check the Guidelines;
- specify your thesis topic (approved by your supervisor);
- log in to your personal page of the Teaching Portal - Thesis TAB - and select the "Thesis Application Form", or else click the Online services TAB - Degree and Final Examination portlet;
- fill out all required fields: enter the name of your co-supervisor, if any (he/she can be a person who does not pertain to Politecnico) and information on external institutions involved (for thesis projects at private companies).
You will receive an e-mail to inform you about the outcome of your application (approval/rejection).
The approval of your thesis application:- determines the first Graduation period in which you are allowed to graduate. Your thesis application does not lose its validity. This means it can be used also for graduation periods that follow the one for which the application has been submitted;
- can be modified (you can change your thesis topic, add a co-supervisor or external institution). In this case, your supervisor must inform the Office of Student Services;
- can be cancelled if you want to change your thesis topic or choose a new supervisor (send a ticket to the Student Careers Unit). In this case, you need to check the dates of the next Graduation period and the deadlines for your thesis application and for the approval of your thesis topic.
If you are pursuing a double degree, you are expected to abide by the rules agreed between Politecnico di Torino and its partner university on the identification of your supervisor, thesis composition, presentation and oral defence. The deadlines you have to meet are those established by Politecnico di Torino.
If you submit your thesis application after the deadlines illustrated in the thematic calendar, you will be admitted to the Final Examination but your supervisor will have to confirm that you have completed your thesis (thesis conclusion confirmation) and you will have to pay a late penalty fee (€ 50.00) when you register for the Final Examination.
