Plagiarism consists of the unauthorized appropriation of words, ideas, or other types of information from an external source.
Plagiarism is a criminal offence and is regulated by Law no. 475 of 19th April 1925.
The thesis is the result of the individual work of the student who is required to make correct use of sources. When using a source, this must be quoted in the text and in the final bibliography. For this reason, if you use someone else’s material, you must not present it as your own idea.
Politecnico di Torino has implemented the use of an anti-plagiarism software, Compilatio.net.
The anti-plagiarism service supports faculty members in correcting Bachelor's final project and Master’s theses and checking their originality. This verification has an educational objective and it is intended as a support tool for students; nevertheless, if a clear violation in the use of original sources occurs, the student found guilty of plagiarism will be subject to disciplinary sanctions.
How do I know if my Final Project has been checked for plagiarism?
You need to contact your Supervisor who can decide whether to check your thesis for plagiarism or not.
I would like to personally check my Final Project before submitting it. What should I do?
Politecnico di Torino does not have an anti-plagiarism software for students. You need to check your thesis using the online software available on the Web.
What percentage of corresponding matches is considered plagiarism?
There is no specific percentage. It is up to your Supervisor to determine if it is a case of plagiarism or not. The Supervisor will use the software to examine the sources that you have quoted and will decide whether to accept or reject your work on the basis of the similarities detected.
