REQUIREMENTS
  • In order to pass the English language exam at Politecnico di Torino, you must obtain one of the English language certificates accpeted by Politecnico - B2 level (CEFR) or above.
It is compulsory:
  • If you are attending an Italian-taught degree programme: pass the English language exam in order to earn your Bachelor’s degree (graduation requirement)
  • If you are want to attend an English-taught Bachelor’s degree programme: have an English language certificate in order to be admitted to Politecnico (admission requirement). In these cases, you must have an English language certificate (B2 level or above) when you apply online on the Apply@polito platform of Politecnico website.

Your language requirements vary depending on the year of your first enrolment at Politecnico. Please verify which English language certificates are accepted by Politecnico in your case.
English language certificates - exemptions

Upon enrolment, provide a stamped declaration/certificate written on official letterheaded paper, which certifies that: 
a) you have attended at least one school year at a high school in which the medium of instruction is English. In this case the school must issue a certificate stating that “The medium of instruction is English”.
b) you have a non-Italian high school diploma which is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or you have a higher qualification awarded by a higher education institution in which the medium of instruction is English. The school must issue a certificate stating that “The medium of instruction is English”. 

With regard to points “a” and “b”, please note that diplomas awarded by high schools based in the USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand do not need to include the phrase “The medium of instruction is English”.

if you have a non-Italian qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or if you have a higher qualification awarded by a higher education institution in which the medium of instruction is English, exclusively if the institution is based in USA, Canada, UK,  Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

  • IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/)   exclusively if you have attended the entire learning path in English, except for the foreign languages;
  • High school diploma awarded by one of the European Schools listed in Annex 2 of the "Procedures for entry, stay and enrolment in higher education programmes in Italy of students requiring visa", exclusively if the first language of the learning path (L1) is English;
  • Educational qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry for University and Research as equivalent to an Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or academic qualification earned at a higher education institution or university where the medium of instruction is English and awarded by the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zeland, regardless of the country where the school/university is located;
  • Educational qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry for University and Research as equivalent to an Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or academic qualification earned at a higher education institution or university where the medium of instruction is English and based in one of the countries listed in Annex A.


EXAM PREPARATION 
  • The Language Center (CLA) organizes:
    • activities to help you learn English
    • exam sessions for the attainment of an internationally recognized English language certificate IELTS Academic on paper.

  • The language certificate will be shown on your personal area of the Teaching Portal - "View your data and change your address". 




RECOGNITION OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXAM CREDITS
  • If you get the IELTS certificate at an internal IELTS session at Politecnico di Torino:
    • you will not have to make any request for the registration of your first level English language exam: the registration will take place automatically;
  • If you get the a certificate at institutions outside Politecnico di Torino:
    • you must submit a specific request for the registration of your first level English language exam (personal page of the Teaching portal -  "Language certificates upload" portlet


Fill out the online form and upload a scanned copy of your certificate (if required)


You must fill out the following fields: 
  • Language: English;
  • Family: enter the type of certificate (IELTS, CAMBRIDGE, TOEFL, etc.);
  • Certificate: enter the level you achieved.
  • Certificate date: date of certificate conferral.
Certificates verification
  • IELTS
    • enter the TRF Number* 
    • enter the TRF Number present on the certificate and upload a scanned copy of your certificate, if you got your certificate more than 3 years ago.
*The TFR number is available on the certificate or in the e-mail you received when the results were published.

  • Cambridge
    • share your results with Politecnico di Torino - see instructions here  
    • enter the Candidate ID or upload the Statement of results.
  • TOEFL
    • indicate Politecnico di Torino using its code (C285) when you register for TOEFL
    • enter the Appointment Number or upload a scanned copy of your certificate
    • If you did not indicate Politecnico di Torino during TOFOEL registration, you must upload a scanned copy of your certificate

  • All other certificates/exemption cases 
    • present in the table of certificates and exemptions published in the Student Guide of your year of first enrolment,
    • upload the scanned copy of your certificate.
