The degree program in Design and Visual Communication
trains a designer who is able to conceive new products loaded with cultural contents: environmental sustainability, design “for all”, ergonomics, in addition to the psychology of consumption and cognitive ergonomics.
The Degree program educates two professional figures:
- product designer,
- graphic and virtual designer.
Both study programs devote particular attention to new behaviours and the significance of production processes (even the artisan manufacturing ones) with respect to the transversal topics of sustainability and ethics. It takes an ethical attitude based on the concept of sustainable development
, both from a social and an environmental viewpoint, maintaining the cultural roots of the products without impoverishing the producers and respecting the legislation which offers information on the production chain and creates development and job opportunities.
The program in Design and Visual Communication encompasses the legacy of the Graphic & Virtual Design program, which was already an evolution of the historical university diploma in Printing Arts and Techniques at the Politecnico di Torino, because it deals with the more traditional fields of visual communications, but also places a particular focus on the new forms and means of communication, on digital image processing and on the effects that technological innovation in this sector produces on human behavioural change, hence the guarantee of a proactive and functional use of IT tools and hypermedia.
