Peter Wadhams is the
UK's most experienced sea ice scientist, with
49 years of research in sea ice and ocean processes in the Arctic and the Antarctic. He is an
Emeritus Professor of Ocean Physics at Cambridge Univeristy and is the author of over
300 publications on d
ynamics and thermodynamics of sea ice, sea ice thickness, waves in ice, icebergs, ocean convection and kindred top ics. Current main topics of research are sea ice properties, dynamics and distributions in thickness and concentration, as well as the wider impact of sea ice retreat on global climate change. He was coordinator ofthe
EU GreeniCE and
CONVECTION projects and until recently was on the Steering Committee of
EU FP7 ICE-ARC.
From 2004 to 2012, he was on the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency.
In 1990 he received the Italgas Prize for Environmental Sciences, and he has also been awarded the Polar Medal (UK) and the W.S. Bruce Prize ofthe Royal Society of Edinburgh.
In the 2nd level Specializing Master's programme in Climate Change: adaptation and mitigation solutions he will lecture An Introduction to Climate Change in the Preliminary Courses.
