Educational Goals

A person holding a Bachelor degree in EE is a professional able to design and to build objects and systems based on information technology, like calculators, cell phones, TV sets, audio players, digital cameras, cars, satellites, control systems for industrial plants, and systems for banking and market, from ATMs to secure communication systems. Creating and developing such systems requires different abilities and skills ranging from an in-depth understanding of application to knowledge in sundry fields of engineering.

Electronic Engineering BSc-level programme has been designed to address a wide-range of contents, joining detailed subjects specific to Electronics with a strong preparation in the related fields of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Industrial Automation.
Electronic Engineering is centered on practical aspects and applications, and on the design and manufacturing of electronic systems for information processing. Its focus is the design phase of physical products, ranging from nanotechnology-based devices to complex and large systems. This requires a deep knowledge of various kinds of devices, circuits and electronic systems, integrated with engineering skills related to design, industrialization, manufacturing and management of laboratories and facilities.

Scientific knowledge evolves constantly and technologies are changing at fast pace. No school or college can offer a curriculum for any possible future need. On the contrary, any engineer needs an ongoing professional training and ability to communicate with people from different technical fields. For this reason, the Electronic Engineering degree provides a solid understanding of general engineering, laying the foundation for an easy adaptation to different professional requirements. This ensures, even after completion of a degree, the ability to maintain a high professional profile in a fast changing environment.

Career Opportunities

The professional profile of Electronic Engineers underwent deep changes in the last years, involving a broader range of knowledge and activities. The task of an Electronic Engineer is not limited anymore to the design of electronic circuits and devices, but he or she has also to interact with Telecommunications, Computer Science, Automation, and other areas where Information Technology is embedded and gives a conspicuous added value. Electronics is therefore used even in sectors supposedly unrelated to the Information Technology, like mechanics, construction, manufacturing, energy and environment management. Companies and institutions needing the expertise of Electronic Engineers are, beside those directly involved in Information Technology, also most manufacturing industries and many government agencies and business services.

Employment opportunities are therefore found both in the traditional Electrical Engineering fields (companies designing and manufacturing electronic devices, components and systems), as well as more generally in those sectors applying electronic technologies and tools for processing, sending and using information.

Joint fundamental and specialized engineering education allows the graduates to take advantage of a wide variety of career opportunities, both in industrial manufacturing and services to citizens and business, with a wide range of positions, such as designer, manufacturing expert, manager of laboratories and facilities using electronic systems.

Educational Path

The Electrical Engineering degree offers in a single programme comprehensively basic engineering training and a thorough knowledge of components, devices, electronic systems and their applications.


┐Due to a substantial number of foreign students, lectures are both in Italian and English. It┐s also possible to attend courses abroad, within the frame of agreements with foreign universities, obtaining both Italian and foreign degree. With the Electronic Degree, a student can enroll directly to a Master of Science in Electronics, Mechatronics and Nanotechnologies.

The First year, common to all Engineering degrees, is devoted to fundamental subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science and English language.

2nd year

The Second year offers an in depth view of topics in mathematics and physics related to the Information Technologies, and includes basic courses for engineers working in this field, such as Circuit Theory, Computer Science, Applied Electronics and Measurement Techniques.

3rd year

The Third year is focused on different aspects of Electronics, toghther with with topics on Telecommunications and Automation. Courses emphasize aspects of implementation, design and detailed analysis, so that students can either directly enter the job market with a Bachelor degree, or they may continue their education working on their Master degree.

Many courses include both design and measurement laboratories, to show clearly the interaction between mathematical models and experimental reality. Familiarity with these interactions is instrumental in this branch of engineering.

During his/her 3rd year, a student can take an internship in a company. Final exam requires the student to write a report, under a professor┐s supervision, on a subject that can be related to the internship.
