The first year of the Electronic and Communications Enegineering bachelor programme can be attended in Italian by those students who do not possess the English certificate (at least PET, pass with merit, or IELTS 5.0) when they enroll at Politecnico di Torino. The students must obtain the English certificate before the end of the first year to pass to the second year. Italian students who possess the English certificate are invited to attend the first year in English.

The 1st year of the Electronic and Communications Engineering bachelor programme is devoted to the acquisition of the basics in the field of math, physics, chemistry, computer science, and it is common to all the engineering students of Politecnico di Torino.

The eligible classes of the first year (Free ECTS credits 1st year, 6 credits) and of the third year (Free ECTS credits 3rd year, 6 credits) can be substituted with Professional Training in a company, corresponding to 12 credits. Students who are interested in this 12 credit internship should not include the Free ECTS credits 1st year (6 credits) in their Personal Study Plan.

In the 2nd year a deeper knowledge of math and physics is obtained, while the study of the specific technical subjects starts through the classes "Circuit Theory", "Electronic Circuits", "Automatic Control". To foster transversality, the course "Discrete Mathematics" is included at the 2nd year.

The 3rd year deepens the applicative part of electronics, while provides knowledge in the telecommunications field and completes the expertise in the design of algorithms. 1) At the 3rd year the student has to choose between the two classes "Digital Systems Electronics" and "Electronic Measurements"; by calling on the Registrar's Office the student may add the excluded class as free ECTS credits III year. 2) Class "Digital Transmission and Communications Networks" is made of two modules which analyze two different and complementary aspects of telecommunications, but has only one exam. 3) The final project consists of the development of a small project with report within the class "Signals and Systems".

During the 3rd year the student can choose the internship (Professional Training) in a company. 1) Students who do not have in their Personal Study Plan nor the Free ECTS credits 1st year nor the Free ECTS credits 3rd year can include in their Personal Study Plan the Professional Training class with 12 credits. 2) Students who do not have in their Personal Study Plan the Free ECTS credits 3rd year can include in in their Personal Study Plan the Professional Training class with 10 credits, out of which 6 credits are necessary to complete the total required number of credits (180) and 4 are extra-credits.
