Writing Scientific Papers in English (WSPE) is a course for PhD candidates who are beginning to publish their research in English. The course aims to help participants discover the conventions of research articles in English and to provide useful tools that will enable them to write academic papers independently in the future. WSPE is a soft skills course worth 15 hours. You are required to attend at least 70% of the lessons and complete the assigned course work. IMPORTANT: absence from the first two lessons will automatically lead to exclusion from the course.

Course Content The course focuses on conventional text structures and language which are commonly used in research articles in English, considering standard article sections such as Introductions, Methodology and Results sections. Participants are helped to build up the language resources necessary to write papers in their own field of research and have to complete weekly writing assignments. Course structure The course consists of 11 lessons: an introductory Induction lesson is followed by 5 weeks of twice-weekly lessons. There are 4 iterations of the course every year, from January to June. Calendars are published on your PoliTo personal page, under the “Languages/Lingue” TAB, when they are available. 1st iteration: January 2024. Course registration and requirements How to register You need to register for the course via the dedicated link you will find on your PoliTo personal page, under the “Languages/Lingue” TAB. This link is available on your personal page of the Teaching Portal –Languages/Lingue TAB – during the registration periods indicated for each course. A maximum of 30 places is available for each iteration of the course. Please Note: you must register for the course in order to take part to the classes. IMPORTANT: Once each registration period is closed, no further students will be admitted. Requirements To access the registration procedure, WSPE must be in your career plan for the current academic year.
