Negli ultimi anni lo studio dell’abitare si è rivelato un utile terreno di convergenza tra studiosi con diverse competenze e un interessante banco di prova per sperimentare metodi e pratiche della ricerca storica. Il corso assume la ricerca sull’abitare come punto di osservazione per discutere alcune tendenze più ampie che hanno contribuito a indirizzare una stagione recente di studi sulla costruzione della città del secondo Novecento, osservata attraverso le diverse prospettive della storia del paesaggio, della storia urbana e della storia ambientale. Questa edizione del corso, in particolare, si propone di osservare e discutere alcune tra le più recenti tendenze nella ricerca storica sull'housing urbano che si sono soffermate sullo studio del paesaggio residenziale attraverso l'analisi degli spazi collettivi, del verde, dello spazio pubblico, delle attrezzature e dei servizi. Scelte più specifiche riguardanti il centro tematico del corso dipenderanno dal numero di studenti iscritti e dal loro retroterra formativo. Le attività didattiche potranno beneficiare di scambi con Technion IIT (Housing Lab. History and Future of Living).
In recent years, housing history has proved to be a fruitful field of exchange between scholars with different competencies and an exceptional testing ground to experiment with methods and practices of historical research. The course takes housing histories as an observation point to discuss some of the broader tendencies that affect recent studies on the post-war built environment, crossing the different approaches of the landscape, urban and environmental history. This course edition aims to analyze and discuss some of the most recent trends that have contributed to shaping historical studies on collective urban housing. These addressed the study of the residential landscape by analyzing its outdoor and collective spaces, the greenery, the public space, and their facilities. The specific focus on the course will depend upon the number of students and their educational background. Joint teaching activities with Technion IIT (Housing Lab. History and Future of Living) will be proposed.

Il corso si baserà sull'analisi collettiva di una serie di studi che hanno contribuito a dar forma al dibattito sul tema proposto. Ad ogni studente verrà chiesto di leggere un libro o una serie di articoli e di discuterne criticamente con il resto del corso attraverso una presentazione orale e un testo scritto. Un sito web gestito dal gruppo servirà da riferimento per questa discussione collettiva e al tempo come strumento per la presentazione pubblica di alcuni risultati. Il corso si articolerà in una lezione introduttiva, un ciclo seminariale con il coinvolgimento di ospiti esterni e una lezione conclusiva. Quest’organizzazione potrebbe cambiare a seconda del numero di studenti partecipanti, dei testi o degli argomenti da trattare, ecc. Il corso sarà tenuto in inglese, anche se i lavori di ricerca discussi durante il seminario potranno essere scritti in una pluralità di altre lingue (es. italiano, francese, tedesco, cinese, ecc.). Si prenderanno in considerazione in questo senso proposte provenienti dagli studenti.
The course will be based upon the collective analysis of several recently published research works that have contributed to shaping the scholarly debate on the subject. Each student will be asked to read a book or a series of articles and critically discuss it with the rest of the class through an oral presentation and a written essay. A collectively edited website will serve as a reference for this collective discussion and a tool for the public presentation of its outcomes. The course will ideally be articulated into an introductory lecture, a lecture series involving external guests, and a concluding lecture. This organization might change depending on the number of participant students, texts/topics to be treated, etc. The course will be taught in English, although the research works discussed during the seminar might be written in several other languages (such as, but not limited to, Italian, French, German, Chinese, etc.). Proposals coming from the students will be welcome in this respect.
