Decisions characterize our life but clearly, they are not all of the same type. Although the variety and variability of the decisions we face is extremely high, there are tools that can support us in the decision-making process. These tools are taught to many disciplines, both of a more sociological and a technical-operational nature. The decision-making process is thus a process that allows to systematize and possibly (partially) control the decision-making choice. The aim of the course is therefore to enable students to recognize the type of decision-making problem to be faced and in which context it is placed, to be able to grasp the various types of uncertainty that characterize a decision-making problem and to be able to identify the tools more correct and suitable for supporting the specific decision to be faced.

1) Problems, decisions, and solutions: description and conceptual framework of the elements of problem, decision and solution. 2) Decision process phases: description and classification of the steps that make up the decision-making process with particular attention to the validation of the decision results 3) Individual, group and organizational decisions: description of the main types of environments in which decisions are made and their characterization based on the actors involved and their mutual relationships. 4) Decisions and uncertainty: uncertainty as a tool for understanding the type of decision to be taken and as tools for measuring / evaluating / validating results. 5) Operational decision support tools: decision support tools, cases and type of use depending on the presence or absence of uncertainty and the type of uncertainty.
