PERIOD: JUNE • Introduction to Photonics: propagation of laser light and dielectric waveguides (integrated and optical fibers). • Lasers for industrial and biomedical applications (e.g. marking, cutting, welding, surgery, ...): working principle, types, characteristics. Examples of industrial case studies with the support of experts from relevant industries in the field. • Fiber optical sensors: operating principles and main applications (e.g., structural health monitoring, condition based maintenance, detection of chemicals, ...).
