Gli aspetti di presentazione visuale delle informazioni in maniera corretta ed efficace sono un aspetto fondamentale non solo in campo ingegneristico e scientifico, ma rappresenta un’abilità essenziale nella comunicazione in generale. L’insegnamento presenta le conoscenze teoriche e metodologiche fondamentali per l’organizzazione, il trattamento e la visualizzazione di informazioni quantitative (principalmente numeriche). Inoltre esso fornisce le abilità pratiche per la progettazione e realizzazione di visualizzazioni utilizzando le moderne tecnologie informatiche, orientate sia alla presentazione web sia tradizionale. L’insegnamento è tenuto in lingua italiana.
The correct and effective visual presentation of information is not only a fundamental aspect in the scientific and engineering field, but it represents a fundamental capability in the communication at large. The course presents the fundamental theoretical and methodological knowledge to organize, process and visualize quantitative (mainly numerical) information. Moreover it provides the practical abilities to design and build visualizations by means of modern computer technologies, focusing both on traditional and web presentations. The course is taught in Italian.
Conoscenze: lo studente alla fine dell’insegnamento possiederà i concetti basilari della teoria della misura, di organizzazione e memorizzazione digitale delle informazioni in maniera efficiente (in fogli elettronici e formati open-data), degli aspetti cognitivi e percettivi legati alla visualizzazione, e la conoscenza dei principali ambienti di visualizzazione. Abilità: lo studente sarà in grado di definire gli aspetti metodologici, progettare e realizzare dei semplici sistemi di visualizzazione di informazioni quantitative. In particolare un uso efficiente ed efficace di strumenti basilari quali i fogli di calcolo, la produzione grafici in documenti quali report e presentazioni, e la costruzione di visualizzazioni interattive per l’ambiente web.
Knowledge: the student, at the end of the course, will possess the basic concepts of the measurement theory, the theoretical aspects concerning the efficient organization and storage of digital information (using spreadsheets and open-data formats), the basis of the cognitive and perceptual aspects related to visualization, and the knowledge of the main visualization environments. Abilities: the student will be able to define the methodological aspects, to design and build simple visualization systems for quantitative information. In particular, the effective and efficient use of such tools as spreadsheets, the creation of graphs for documents as reports and presentations, and the development interactive web visualizations.
Si presuppone una conoscenza dei concetti basilari dell’analisi matematica e della programmazione, come quelli forniti dai corsi del I anno. È raccomandata la conoscenza di un linguaggio di programmazione orientato agli oggetti (ad es. Java). È necessario essere in grado di analizzare semplici problemi (ad esempio calcolo serie di Fibonacci) e scrivere programmi che li risolvano.
The course requires a basic knowledge of mathematical analysis and programming, such as that provided by the Ist year courses. It is recommended the knowledge of an Object-Oriented programming language (e.g. Java). The student must be able to analyze simple problems (e.g. computing the Fibonacci serie) and write program to solve them.

Modalità di esame: Test informatizzato in laboratorio;
Exam: Computer lab-based test;
L’esame è svolto al calcolatore e consiste nel progettare e sviluppare una visualizzazione a partire da un caso di studio. In aggiunto sono presenti due domande a risposta chiusa per valutare la conoscenza degli aspetti teorici presentati. L’esame è a libri aperti e dura due ore. I criteri di valutazione riguardano la completezza dell’analisi critica del caso di studio (40% del voto finale), la funzionalità della soluzione proposta ed i suoi aspetti di integrità visuale (proporzionalità, chiarezza ed utilità) (50% del foto finale) e le completezza delle conoscenze teoriche acquisite (10% del voto finale).
Gli studenti e le studentesse con disabilità o con Disturbi Specifici di Apprendimento (DSA), oltre alla segnalazione tramite procedura informatizzata, sono invitati a comunicare anche direttamente al/la docente titolare dell'insegnamento, con un preavviso non inferiore ad una settimana dall'avvio della sessione d'esame, gli strumenti compensativi concordati con l'Unità Special Needs, al fine di permettere al/la docente la declinazione più idonea in riferimento alla specifica tipologia di esame.
Exam: Computer lab-based test;
The exam will take place at the computer and consists in designing and developing a visualization starting from a case study. In addition two closed answer question are presented to check the knowledge of the theoretical topics. It is an open book exam lasting two hours. The assessment criteria concern the completeness of the critical analysis of the case study (40% of the final grade), the functionality of the proposed redesign and the relative visual integrity (proportionality, clarity, and usefulness) (50% of final grade), and completeness of theoretical knowledge acquired (10% of final grade).
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
