The goal of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the modelling techniques for advanced internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies. After a short introduction aimed to provide a brief but comprehensive overview of innovative ICE technologies, the first part of the course will be focused on turbulent jet ignition (TJI) concept, both for conventional fuels and for hydrogen (H2): in this part of the course, innovative techniques for knock detection will also be presented. The second part will deal with innovative direct-injection engines concepts and their modelling. Automated 1D-/3D-CFD coupling for combustion evolution analysis within additive-manufacturing-enabled innovative piston bowl geometries, ducted fuel injection (DFI) and dual-fuel (DF) engines will be presented. Finally, details will be provided about the modelling of fuel injection, combustion and pollutant formation processes for bio- and e-fuels.
