PERIOD: SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER Aim of the course is to provide a deep knowledge in the field of additive manufacturing (AM) processes based on directed energy deposition (DED) techniques with specific reference to processes and materials. DED processes will be analysed on the basis of a practical perspective: theoretical knowledge will be tuned with experimental practice in the laboratory (c/o IAM@PoliTo Interdepartmental Centre) which will involve the use of a DED system. The potentialities and limitations of DED technologies as well as the reasons behind their growing interest in various industrial sectors will also be analysed.

Materials for Laser Metal Deposition/Laser engineered net shaping (LMD/LENS). Microstructures and heat treatments. Residual stresses • Basic aspects of product and process design. Numerical simulation of DED processes. Analysis of case studies • Practical activities in laboratory. Experimental design and process optimization. Fabrication of components using a DED system.
