PERIOD: FEBRUARY - MAY The course aims to redefine the practice of the architectural project, both in terms of production and exchange of "projects" - meant as material entities - and by legitimizing the notion of architectural project as a specific form of knowledge. Starting from the analysis of the difficulties in socializing the relevance and consistence of the architectural field, we will try to define how the project can establish its own specific operational, but also technical, symbolic and political, dimension. Unlike other investigations, that have examined the relationship between architecture and politics, the research neither will focus on the results (architectures) neither on the authors (architects), but rather on their work/labour: the project. The shift from the architects-subjects (their good intentions, their sets of values and visions) to the objects (the design products as active entities) deploys a different set of approaches in treating the architectural project as an open practice. The theories and methods include STS and ANT analysis applied to architecture, but also contributions from social ontology and philosophy of science. The project of architecture will be treated as the material/documental outcome of an entangled agency among different kinds of agents (entities, rules, registration, collective representations). Starting from these assumptions we will try to provide a convincing and effective notion of "performativity" for the architectural project, capable to respond to the social challenges regarding the transformation of the built environment of our cities and territories. TO this extent, the course will mainly focus on the innovation issue: is it possible to define any paradigms of "innovation" regarding the architectural project, by considering the projects themselves as transforming systems of sociotechincal objects? Can we strategically debunk the action within a future (or current) process, by using the architectural design/project tools?

The introduction of the Phd programme will be a thematic and bibliographic seminar about differences among theory of architecture, of design, and architectural design (in its different characteristics), which involves architectural design professors engaged in the next theoretical courses in lauree triennale. After this introduction the course will be organized on three principals lines: definition of project/design/concept, definition of innovation in architectural design, ad strategy of action. Some materials are available on www.teoriadelprogetto.com/
