Oil and Gas Production and Transportation makes crude and gas a real product that can be sold. The course is aimed to give few vague ideas on the fundamental principles and apparatus for the very first essential treatments on oil such as: Gas Oil Separation Plant (GOSP) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) condensation. GOSP processes crude oil from the wellhead and separates gases and contaminants from the crude for reasons of safety, economy, and environmental protection. Particular attention will be devoted on the aspects concerning the transportation of oil and some ideas for gas. Static separators, pipes, valves and pumping stations will be condisered as unit operations. Metrological aspects concerning oil and gas will be lightly considered.

The course will provide some knowledge on mass and momentum transfer in and between phases in gas/solid/liquid separation and transportation. The course will provide some light knowledge of the apparatus used to perform the unit operations in the oil Production and Transportation. Some basic concept for sizing of control valves pipes and pumps will be provided.
The course will deep the knowledge about thermodynamics of simple transformations (transferring homogeneous fluids by pipes, wasting energy from fluids by valves valves and transferring mechanical energy to homogeneous fluids by pumps) . The course will provide some knowledge on mass and momentum transfer in and between phases in gas/solid/liquid separation and transportation. The course will provide some knowledge of the apparatus used to perform the unit operations in the oil Production and Transportation. Some basic concept for sizing of control valves pipes and pumps will be provided.
Basic concepts of chemistry and physics, as well basic thermodynamics are prerequisites to successfully follow the course. In particularly the knowledge about the principles of mass momentum and energy conservation and transport is required. Basic concepts about oil and gas extraction are required (gas and oil properties, physical conditions at the head of extraction wells, extraction flow rates).

Pipeline energetic profiles (J/m3 and m) must be reported and discusses , The design of pumping stations must be discussed. 2 Comparison of two separation devices under one specific set of design specifications. Any in-depth analysis is encouraged for both projects.

Any in-depth analysis is encouraged for both projects as a personal topic.

The oral discussion will start by a 15 min presentation of the projects, timing of presentation will be a part of evaluation. Correct presentation of data (number of digits, scale and units) and comparisons (significant drawings and tables in the right form and size) is part of the project and will be also evaluated.
