System level knowledge of in-vehicle information systems, and of standards and applicability of wireless communication systems. Understanding of geo-localization systems and their performance. Basic knowledge of traffic control systems.

Prerequisiti / Conoscenze pregresse
Knowledge of computer networks and in-vehicle wired networks (provided in Electric and electronic systems in vehicles), probability theory (random variables, probability density function, cumulative distribution function, central limit theorem) and Fourier series.

Programma
Characterization of the electrical signal: deterministic signals and stochastic processes, time and frequency domain representation of signals, stationary and ergodic processes, Fourier transform, Wiener-Khintchine theorem, power spectral density (spectrum) of a signal, identification of periodic components in a spectrum.
Information transmission techniques: baseband and bandpass transmissions, band translation, digital baseband transmissions (NRZ, RZ, Manchester coding), analogue and digital modulations (AM, FM, PSK, QPSK, QAM). Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications: standards and rules, toll systems (Telepass and ETSI compliant systems), IEEE 802.11 wireless systems and their application to V2I communication. Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication: standards and rules, IEEE 802.11 wireless systems and their application to V2V communication. Interconnection of portable devices to vehicle: Bluetooth, USB, Wireless USB. Geo-localization (GPS, GALILEO): principles of operation, performance, applications in vehicles. Driving aids: infrared vision systems, anti collision radar, proximity sensors. Infomobility systems: structure, objectives, examples. |

(For Academic Year 2011-2012 only) High speed wired networks: Ethernet and IEEE 1394 for automotive Radio transmission basics: modulation and demodulation, radio channels, digital modulation schemes. Wireless LAN: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n Interconnection of portable devices to vehicle: Bluetooth, Wireless USB. Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication: standards and rules, toll systems (Telepass and ETSI compliant systems), IEEE 802.11p. Geo-localization (GPS, GALILEO): principles of operation, performance, application in vehicles. Short Range Sensors: vision systems, short range radar, ultrasound sensors. Automated driving: automated parking systems, anti-collision systems, lane detection Traffic control systems: state of the art and new trends. |
