Presentazione
The aim of the course is to recall the basic processes for the production of Technical Textile and provide some new application of textile technologies to their production which is at a research level.
Programma
Technical Textile use and production

Definition and classification of technical textile.
Fibres, yarns and fabric structures in technical textiles and their relevant properties. Overview of high performace fibres and their applications. Definition of nonwovens, description of raw materials used in nonwovens such as fibres, binders, SAP and scrims. Use of micro and functional fibres in nonwovens
Production technologies
Different technologies for the production of nonwoven webs and nonwoven consolidating techniques.
Overview of coating and lamination techniques; direct, transfer and foam coating systems and PU coagulation; hot-melt coatings; industrial applications of coated fabrics; breathable and waterproof membranes, embedded membranes.
Post-treatments of nonwovens and other technical textiles.
Recycling of textile materials
Types of waste from fibre to fabric, systems for shredding and transformation, applications of end-products, from rags to richness concept. Combustion of textile waste.

Application of new textile technologies

Smart Textiles, nano fibres and nano treatments.
Overview of Smart textiles and E-textiles: smart textiles for leisure, professional and health care; electronic textiles for computing and digital components.
Definition of nanofibres, electro-spinning techniques for the production of nonwovens, characteristics and applications of nanofibre products in filtration etc.

Plasma treatment
Definition of plasma treatment, effects on the fibre surface, types of plasma treatments and their functioning, research state and industrial application.

Comfort evaluation for the design of technical textiles
Definition and measurement of thermophisiological comfort for the design of technical garments to be used in sporting, protective and medical wears: characterization tests, tests in climatic chamber and state of art of the research in this field.
