Obiettivi dell'insegnamento
The course aims at providing the basic knowledge of wireless telecommunication systems for telephony and data services.
|

Competenze attese
The student will be able to use the technical language used to describe telecommunication systems and he/she will be able to identify the system which better fits a given application.

|
Prerequisiti
Basic knowledge of telecommunication networks. A summary of the fundamentals will be given at the beginning of the course.

Programma
Basic notions of telecommunication networks.
Cellular networks principles. The radio channel. The GSM system: architecture, time organization, physical layer, physical and logical channels, examples of procedures. Evolution of the GSM system: EDGE, HSCSD. The GPRS system: architecture, protocols, physical layer, RLC/MAC layer. The UMTS system. Voice coders. Wireless local area networks: the IEEE 802.11 protocol. |
