The course will provide a panoramic overview on normatives ISO 9001/2008 and ISO 9004/2008 regarding the quality management system of a factory and the related industrial productive systems.
ISO 9001/2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system that can be used for internal application by organizations, or for certification, or for contractual purposes. It focuses on the effectiveness of the quality management system in meeting customer requirements.
ISO 9004/2008 provides guidance to management for achieving sustained success for any organization in a complex, demanding, and ever changing, environment. It addresses the needs and expectations of all interested parties and their satisfaction, by the systematic and continual improvement of the organization's performance.

The students will be introduced in the world of Quality Management System. They will know the basic instruments to be adopted in a factory for a proper conduction of a Quality System.

The course can be selected also by first year student.

The adoption of a quality management system should be a strategic decision of an organization. The design and implementation of an organization's quality management system is influenced by
a) its organizational environment, changes in that environment, and the risks associated with that environment,
b) its varying needs,
c) its particular objectives,
d) the products it provides,
e) the processes it employs,
f) its size and organizational structure.
A correct use of the process approach in the development, implementation and improvement of the effectiveness of a quality management system, aims to enhance customer satisfaction by providing products that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
The following topics will be deeply investigated: basic concepts on quality, certification, PDCA cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act), management principles and operative implementation techniques, product responsibility, CE label, classification of the operative systems, concept of logistic function, resources requirements, materials handling and safety stocks management, production priorities, operative systems reliability, industrial plants maintenance, productive models (Manufacturing Resourses Planning, Work In Process and Just In Time).

During the course some practical examples of quality management will be presented and solved together with the students.

Written test only. The written test consists of 10 questions: 5 of them are open, i.e. the students have to write themselves the answer (max evaluation for each of this question: up to 4 points, depending on the quality of the provided answer); 5 of them are multiple choice answer, i.e. the students have to mark the correct answer among a set of answers (evaluation for each of this question: 2 points). The overall final mark for this exam can reach 30/30 (5x4=20 points + 5x2=10 points). Questions will be theoretical only (no calculations), based on all of the program explained on the course, fully available on the slides provided by the teacher on the web portal. The written text and the sheets for answering will be provided directly by the teacher during the exam. No personal notes, slides, computers, smartphones are allowed during the written test.
