Presentazione
The course aims to provide students of the Master of Science in Engineering and Management with the tools to be able: (a) to analyze management strategies that can be applied to a production system, such as to obtain the best possible performance, and (b) to use a procedure for the analysis of the performance of the system itself. These instruments will be sufficient, on the one hand, in order to assess efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the system of production, on the other hand to analyze the main issues of management and organization, in terms of management of assets and division of labor. The presentation of these methods and procedures of analysis is accompanied by examples of their application to realistic production systems.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi
The expected learning outcomes in terms of knowledge and skills, belong to the following.
Knowledge necessary to analyze the performance of a producer of goods or services through the analysis of its main functions, the management structure of production and the mode of division of labor, then extending these methods to the analysis of the production chain. Skills necessary to select performance indicators, to associate them with descriptive models of a company or an industrial chain, to estimate the level of performance of the company or industry. |
Prerequisiti / Conoscenze pregresse
Good knowledge of the topics covered in courses dedicated to production systems, logistics and business organization.

Programma
The topics of the course are listed below:
a. Introduction to the analysis of industrial production systems. a.1. The operational structure: product tree, working sequence, layout. a.2. The management structure: internal information network, organizational chart. a.3. The interactions between the production system and its context of market: analysis of the market demand. b. Some formal tools to implement the system performance analysis. c. Analysis of the methods and procedures for the management of production in a manufacturing system: c.1. Analysis of the most common procedures for scheduling orders c.2. Analysis of the programming procedures: JIT, CONWIP, SERU. c.3. Analysis of the mode of application of these procedures The first half of the course will be devoted to the topics "a", while the second half will be devoted to the points "b" and "c". |
Organizzazione dell'insegnamento
The models introduced are used for analysis exercises, the development of which is structured in two phases: (a) analysis of the operations structure to identify main characteristics of the layout;
(b) analysis of the management structure to identify the best management strategy and the organization most appropriate. |

Criteri, regole e procedure per l'esame
The exam consists of a written test containing two questions: (1) a question relating to a problem type of application, including those discussed in the lectures, the solution of which involves the application of models and methods of analysis to obtain a scheme layout of the production process and identify its characteristics and problems, and to achieve a simplified management structure, (2) a question relating to a problem of a theoretical nature, including those contained in the slides discussed during the lectures.
For the written exam, the student will have two hours net, being able to withdraw within the first hour. Shall not use any text or fact. The only complete answer to the first question implies full enough as the complete answer to the second question also allows you to get the highest vote. If the student obtained a pass in the written test, to manage and improve their vote, will support an oral test. In this, however, the change in the vote will be contained within a maximum tolerance of „b 3/30, this as it is intended to give great importance to the accurate presentation of the responses during the written test. |
