The knowledge of Environment, infrastructure and the building heritage, architectural and cultural heritage can be represented using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that allow you to organize a lot of information in a organized approach (following to the logic of the database) and georeferencing them on the Earth surface (geo). Geomatics science is able to offer techniques and tools which allow to acquire the spatial data and to collect information in a single box, where the data can be stored, extracted, queried, processed and displayed in an integrated manner according to the applications where they are used.

The aim of this course is to describe the different types of data, which are used in GIS (geometric, descriptive and descriptors), how to use and to querying the data, 2D and 3D visualization and representation, paying particular attention to the research and the use of free data (open data ). We will analyze the methodological issues related to the design process necessary to properly build a GIS, starting from an external model to the conceptual model (entity-relationship), the logical model (relational) for reaching its practical implementation (internal model) with commercial tools (ArcGIS) and open source packages. Particular emphasis will be placed on specific analyzes which are realized in environment and land management field of even in an emergency situation, in order to answer to the land management and planning request.

La cartografia numerica come base geometrica principale: dalla cartografia tradizionale alla carta numerica, scala nominale, contenuto planimetrico e altimetrico, struttura geometrica e topologica, il processo di produzione
La progettazione di un GIS: il modello esterno, la formalizzazione in un modello concettuale (entità-relazioni), la modellizzazione nel modello relazionale per la realizzazione finale (modello interno) a carico del sistema di gestione (GIS Management System)
I GIS 3D: i modelli altimetrici, digital terrain model (DTM) e digital surface model (DSM), la rappresentazione dell’edificato mediante entità volumetriche, i 3D City Model
I webGIS per la distribuzione delle informazioni in ambienti diffusi: i servizi WMS, WFS, geonode e i GIS condivisi
Le informazioni da satellite e la gestione dell’emergenza
Esempi ed applicazioni in ambito urbano, comunale, provinciale e regionale per la gestione e la pianificazione del territorio.
