PERIOD: FEBRUARY The Finite Element Method (FEM) is a numerical approach to solve partial differential equations and is widely adopted both in the industrial world and for scientific research. The aim of the course is to provide an overview on advanced topics regarding FEM, usually not covered by MS courses and applicable to different fields of engineering. However, examples and applications will be mainly focused on the structural analysis field. The course will be taught in English. Knowledge of some issues related to the use of the Finite Element Method (convergence, accuracy, locking phenomena, dynamic applications) and methods to address them (choice of shape functions). Awareness on the possibility to use the Finite Element Method in unconventional ways (to interpolate and integrate functions), in particular on complex geometric domains. Basic knowledge of the Finite Element Method.

In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
