PERIOD: NOVEMBER - JANUARY The course aims to present the basic principles of Nivology and Snow and Avalanche Engineering. It starts from the knowledge of the "snow" material and the snowpack, through the analysis of the release and propagation of different types of snow avalanches, to the evaluation of avalanche interference with the anthropic environment and to the management (in the short and long term) of the danger. The course is divided in three parts. The first presents the snow material, the snowpack and its stability. The second is aimed to understand the avalanche phenomenon from its trigger and its propagation according to the different rheology that the snowy flow can take. The third is explicitly engineering, focused on the analysis of avalanche interference with structures (buildings) and infrastructures (communication ways and cableway installations), the planning and management of avalanche danger and risk at different levels (regional, municipal and in ski resort), to the defence structures.

Exam:
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
