Programme: Decision aid consists in building up rational models for the representation of complex decision problems and in using logical methods or algorithms to face the problems. The course wants to deepen the student skills on the major topics of decision aiding, with emphasis on the ELECTRE methods and the approach of Multiple Criteria Decision Aid.

1/13/20 - 15-18 - Sala B 3 Logical structure of the course. Introduction to the Operations Research field, from mono to multiobjective optimisation and to multicriteria analysis. Outranking relation and ELECTRE II. Example: candidates to a job position (the development of an application of ELECTRE II is documented) 1/14/20 - 15-18 - Sala B 3 Analysis of multicriteria models in relation to the complexity of the decision problem and decision aid intervention. Applications of ELECTRE II. Robustness analysis. Example: a Suisse problem of planning waste management at regional level (the application is proposed to the students). 1/16/20 - 15-18 - Sala B 3 From ELECTRE II to ELECTRE III: informative and/or preference uncertainty; decision rules, application contexts, new parameters (veto and indifference/preference thresholds) in relation to the analysed models. Examples of parameters (weights and thresholds) in the case/model Location of an incinerator. 1/23/20 - 15-18 - Sala B 3 Sorting problem statement and methods: TPM and ELECTRE Tri. First and second phases of ELECTRE Tri. 1/24/20 - 15-18 - LEP 3 Use of the ELECTRE III/IV SW tool in relation to the model Regional plans of waste management, with the veto threshold of ELECTRE III and some proposals of indifference and preference thresholds. 2/4/20 - 15-18 - LEP 3 Use of the ELECTRE Tri SW tool (Job position) and the subroutine ELECTRE Tri Assistant. Combination of values to build an adequate scale. 2/6/20 - 15-18 - Sala B 3 Decision tree and structure of a model. Analysis of some models of the problem “job position” as examples of problem formulation and model development. What “a specific problem formulation” means. How a model has to be structured. How result analysis may improve the quality of a model. 2/12/20 - 14-18 - LEP 4 Result analysis and robustness analysis with the ELECTRE III and ELECTRE Tri SW tools in relation to the analysed problems. A new problem: its formulation and model structuring. ELECTRE application for the new problem.
