PERIOD: FEBRUARY - MARCH The course aims to describe and analyze main features of a new generation of optical communication systems based on coherent detection: main applications will be introduced, components and the algorithms needed in real implementations will be studied and an analysis of the non-linear fiber propagation will be presented together with system design techniques.

• Basic principles of coherent detection • Advanced modulation formats and techniques • Spectral shaping for Nyquist-WDM: a new technology to increase fiber capacity • Algorithms for digital signal processing (DSP) in the receiver: frequency, phase and polarization recovery • Analysis of non-linear propagation in optical fiber • Applications in long-haul systems • Application in access systems

In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit.
