CLIK - Contamination Lab & Innovation Kitchen is an experimental educational laboratory conceived as a major part of PoliTo’s strategy to foster innovative education and entrepreneurial culture. It is a place in which students can experiment and put into practice what they have learnt during their lectures, in an informal and multidisciplinary environment that promotes a spirit of creativity, collaboration. An external firm provides a “challenge” coming from its real business and, during the experience, 30 students divided in teams work, compete and develop their solution. Challenge@CLIK - PeopleFlowing Nowadays, the concept of travel is changing the paradigm, focusing more attention to the services that the infrastructure could offer to the travelers. From the place of origin to the desired destination, traveling means offering people an integrated, non-discontinued multimodal approach (from the Hub to Hub model to the Door to Door model). The main goal of the firms in the sector, including Hitachi Rail, is to transform this challenge in opportunity devising a system of analysis and management of pedestrians in delimited spaces, with reference to critical scenarios and decisions to be made in real time when the flows are considerable.

The main goal is to involve students in learning initiatives capable of bridging the gap between the theory taught by the University and the skills required to work in a team by companies. Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate in a complex and multidisciplinary context. Information research: Retrieval, Data collection and Utilization of information to support teamwork activities. Hard Skills: Put into practice what they have learnt during their lectures in order to resolve a real problem coming from partner firms. Soft Skills: Teamwork under conditions close to the ones of a real business environment, self-assessment and work organization. At the end of this activity, students will be readier to work in team according the multidisciplinarity required by companies and analyze the problem having a comprehensive view of technical and market issues.

The areas of the Politecnico will be used as an application field for testing the solutions. The potential solutions could be able to monitor pedestrian flows and advise "best" routes during classroom change times, estimate waiting times and queue lengths at offices, the secretariat, the bar, etc. In this way, the University will represent a test field and an important "pilot project" for future developments of solutions in public environments, such as railway stations.
