Each Academic Year for students enrolled in the Master of Science, professional workshops are organized in limited numbers with the simultaneous presence of professors, technical graduates, professionals and experts. Students explore design issues, applied research or professional experiences, in a learning path aimed at transmitting skills in different fields of future activity of the architect.
The workshop aims to present the panorama of the most up-to-date digital methodologies for the 3D survey and the metric representation of Cultural Heritage. The landscape scale, to that of the architectural or archaeological heritage, up to the scale of small objects will be used (architectural decorations, statues and even the many possible artistic assets that require multi-sensor surveys, as they are included in extended architectural complexes). The aim of the workshop is mainly to address terrestrial laser scanning methods integrated with digital photogrammetry, including applications with drones, and to test their use in one application that highlight the opportunity for use in the context of built heritage, with relationships to the urban or natural context in which the heritage is inserted. The course aims to acquire skills in the processing of point clouds and the generation of continuous 3D models, characterized by a multiscale and multi-resolution nature. In detail, the following topics are addressed: - Architectural metric survey aimed at identifying the formal and dimensional aspects of the object of study, as well as the state of conservation. - Applications of architectural photogrammetric survey with digital methodologies; terrestrial shooting and by UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). - Principles of operation of scanning systems (LIDAR). - Analysis and management of point clouds acquired by Mobile Mapping System based on SLAM technology (simultaneous localization and mapping) - Scans acquisition, recording and referencing techniques. - Processing of point clouds and generation of continuous 3D models; multiscale and multi-resolution 3D models. - Integration of digital scanning and photogrammetry systems: orthophotos and 3D orthophotos. - Management and integration of three-dimensional survey data in raster and vector format (DEM and surface models in vector format) for the realization of 2D and 3D final documents. - Very briefly, principles of operation of the GIS environment (Geographic information systems) for the storage and management of spatial information and applications mainly aimed at the integration of 3D survey in the territorial context representation (2D / 3D). During the data acquisition phase applied in the field, the following operations will be directly tested by the participants: - topographic surveying for network measurement and supporting photogrammetric and laser scanning surveying (with traditional methods and / or through satellite navigation systems (GPS-GNNS); - photogrammetric recordings with high resolution digital cameras and UAV systems (drones); - data acquisition with laser scanner instrumentation and mobile mapping systems The processings will be carried out in the classroom through open source software or proprietary, often with temporary licenses. They will provide: - images orientation on digital photogrammetric stations with use of programs based on SfM (Structure from Motion) algorithms for the realization of controlled photo planes, stereoscopic models, orthophotos and 3D models - point clouds generation and processing, to reach the definition of the surface model of the object of study. - Architectural drawings configured as traditional parallel projections typical of architectural representation, generated with the innovative introduction of new reality-based survey products (DSM, DEM, ie digital surface or elevation models, and orthophotos) or textured 3D views metrically controlled.

Exam: Check;
... The exam, organized according to a presentation and choral discussion, will focus on the analysis of the application results achieved and therefore on the examination of the related final products of the exercise. The evaluation will be a synthesis of an individual and group judgment component; will take into consideration the entire participation in the course activities as well as the final results.

In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
