PERIOD: NOVEMBER - DECEMBER The course aims to provide the theoretical basis for understanding and describing the mechanical behavior of continuous solids in the case where the deformation cannot be considered infinitesimal and therefore a richer description of kinematics, able to treat finite deformations, is needed. The competence provided by the course (terminology, concepts and methods) is useful for placing theories on the mechanical behavior of materials in a coherent conceptual framework and for understanding the fundamentals of the methods of discretization of boundary value problems.

Kinematics of continuum bodies. Stress and equilibrium. Constitutive laws. Linearization of equilibrium equations. Discretization and solution.
