The course aims to present the concepts of smart buildings and smart cities with a focus on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. It provides an overview of design principles, advanced products and technologies for building construction and technical energy systems, smart energy metering, building automation, energy management strategies, smart energy grids. The recent research trends and the standardization evolutions are described as well, including NZEB. The key actors involved in low- energy smart buildings are identified and the multidisciplinary nature of the topic (design, construction, HVAC and lighting technologies, comfort, energy, environmental sustainability, ICT, electronics) is highlighted.
