The aim of this elective course (already held in some Chinese universities) is introducing PhD students to the morphological features of the European urban space (even in comparison with the Asian one), from the rising of the Italian urban city in 14th century until the “dystopian” idea of imagined urban spaces of nowadays even through science fiction novels and movies. Professor will chose10 Western images (six paintings, an engrave, a movie photogram, a picture and a cartoon) and he will describe them in detail, entering in the cultural background of each image and showing the multilayer meaning of it. The course is part of the activities of the Joint Research Unit "TRANSITIONAL MORPHOLOGIES" (Politecnico di Torino and Southeast University Nanjing).
