A conclusione del corso, gli studenti saranno in grado di sviluppare un’analisi critica delle principali caratteristiche di un veicolo ibrido evidenziandone i vantaggi e gli svantaggi. Grazie alle informazioni fornite durante il corso ed alle esercitazioni svolte in aula, studenti saranno in grado di progettare una strategia di controllo per un sistema di propulsione ibrida.
At the end of the lessons the student is expected to be able to perform a critical analysis on the main features of a hybrid electric vehicle emphasizing its strength and weaknesses. The information provided during the course and the exercise performed in the class will also allow the student to perform a preliminary design of the vehicle energy management system

Nowadays hybrid vehicles represents one of the most promising solutions to reduce the impact of conventional powertrain on the air quality and to move toward a more sustainable mobility. In such a framework, this course aims to provide a comprehensive overview on the hybrid propulsion technologies primarily through a detailed review of the motivations which have led to the development of such systems and of the additional functionalities enabled by the combined use of different power actuators. The main hybrid powertrain configurations will be also introduced analysing several test cases currently available in the market. The course will also presents the operating principles and the evolution scenarios of the main components of a generic hybrid powertrain (Batteries, Electric Motors & Inverters, Internal Combustion Engines). Finally, since the performance of a hybrid vehicle strongly depends on its powertrain control strategy, the course will also provide a critical analysis of the most relevant algorithm which can support the design of an Energy Management System.
