2020/21
Among the outgoing orientation activities promoted by the Master Degree Course, the execution of internships in institutions or companies, where the trainees could also be subsequently hired, constitutes an important training opportunity and a first approach to the world of work. In addition to promoting students' contact with the professional situation, the internship represents at the same time a first test of the knowledge acquired by the student during his university training, and of the ability to apply them in a real context. For this reason, it would be suitable that the choice of the internship’s seat were made by preferring institutions or companies that allow to integrate the academic and technical competences as well as to check directly the skills associated with the professional figure formed by the Master Degree Course on the themes of: (i) architectural and urban planning, with reference to both the design of new constructions in existing built-up context and the reuse of the existing heritage, (ii) development of restoration and urban renewal, (iii) works management and coordination activities. The Master Degree Representative continuously selects and reports the specific traineeship offers for students belonging to the Master Degree of Science in Architecture Heritage Preservation and Enhancement.
The internship can be carried out indifferently in the first or second teaching period of the second year of the Master Degree. The student who carries out the internship must have the skills and abilities acquired within the courses of the first year of the Master Degree.
Instructions on the platform through which students can insert their internship project and track/report the internship progress till its completion, can be found at:https://didattica.polito.it/pdf/Procedura_Lato_Studente.pdf The linking activities between students and the world of work are managed centrally by the Stage & Job Office of the GESD area (http://stagejob.polito.it) to whose website please refer for the details of the work accompanying programs. In particular, support activities are provided to companies (whose acquaintance is promoted within the University) and to students (for the identification of candidates with the required skills) with the aim of promoting the meeting between the job supply and demand. Extending the duration of your internship (valid for Master’s degree programmes only): Internships have a given duration (hours) and provide a certain number of credits as specified in the Annual Personal Study Plan. You can extend the duration of your internship (number of hours) by selecting one of the options available in the field “Expected no. of hours”. You can only do this operation before the beginning of your internship and not while you are doing it. In any case, you cannot do more than 900 hours (maximum amount of hours may vary for each study course). Any request to extend the duration of an internship must be decided together with the Host Company. It MUST also be approved by a Polito faculty member (your Academic Tutor or the Internship Coordinator for your degree programme) who may reject your proposal. In this case, you need to make a new proposal and fill out a new Progetto Formativo. If your Progetto Formativo is approved, it means that the extension of your internship and the extra hours have been accepted too. At the end of an internship with extended duration, you will see that the internship is recorded in your transcript as follows: INTERNSHIP with standard hours/credits in accordance with the rules of your degree programme (i.e., 6 credits/ 150 hours) plus the annotation “curricular internship extension” with your extra hours/credits. These credits will be recorded in your transcript as credit overload (they do not count towards the 120-credit threshold required for Master’s graduation) Reference teachers: Cesare TOCCI, Rossella MASPOLI
