The course aims to give the participants the description and analysis of the main transmissions used in the automotive field. Attendants will be provided with schemes and other elements useful to model and compare the different solutions available in the market. Some issues of manual (vibrations) and non-manual transmissions (control systems and logics) will be analysed.

Introduction to transmissions: why they are needed, launch devices (clutches/torque converters), choice of the transmission ratios. Analysis and models of the main architectures: manual (with detailed analysis of gearshifts), robotized, automatic, cvt, hybrid (series, parallel, series-parallel, dual mode) Analysis of differentials: open, limited slip and self-locking. Influence on vehicle dynamics. Vibrational issues: models for analysis of gear clonck and rattle. Introduction to control logic design for hybrid systems.
