A project case study is an integral part of the course (developed by groups of 5-8 students). The aim of the projects is to help students to apply the content taught in class. The evaluation of the projects will be based on the documentation produced. The project workshop will include classroom discussions supervised by the course instructor and some tutors.
The course will develop the subject of construction management, concerning management, coordination and control of the construction process of a building, from execution to delivery. The course aims to provide information about drivers, records, methods and tools, required to manage a construction process, starting from the investment planning, through definition of performance requirements, moving to selection of contractors, work organization and cost control during construction, ending with the building delivery. It is divided in two sections, Part A “Principles” and Part B “Applications”, that will be developed in a coordinated manner.
Understand the management of complex construction projects, from an economic, temporal, performance and construction point of view. Use methods and tools pertaining to the Project Management for Construction (WBS, PBS, Gantt). Analyse and understand a building process from the point of view of a CM Define the environmental impact of a Construction Site Knowledge of the building process and the relevant regulations. Properly set up the definition of the project requirements through the drafting of the Employer's Information Requirements. Correctly define the technical specifications to meet the project requirements and specifications. Define the information content of the BIM model for the construction and management phase. Set up the construction project and plan the construction phases in compliance with the regulations in force. Divide the construction site into phases and represent, through the site layouts, the characterizing elements of the operational design. Communicate effectively the results of the exercise through different media (presentations, videos, etc.).
Define the main tasks of a CM Use methods and tools pertaining to the Project Management to Construction Analyse and understand a building process from the point of view of a CM Evaluate the LCA of a simplified construction process Define the environmental impact of a Construction Site Apply methods and tools to a case study Coordinate the different construction phases Schedule and plan a construction site with control of costs and resources Propose different technology solutions
Knowledge of costs estimating Building technology Office package
Basic knowledge of usual building systems and technologies Knowledge of building design and costs estimating

The course has been designed both for online and face-to-face learning, in accordance with the national health situation and governmental recommendations. If there will be the option will be arranged construction site visits and meetings in presence to review the group work.
A project laboratory is integral part of the course. The objective of projects is to help students in applying the contents of the lessons. Projects will be assigned at the beginning of the semester and will be checked at fixed deadlines (with a final evaluation). The evaluation of projects will be based on the produced documentation. The project laboratory will include class discussions supervised by the course instructor and by some tutors.
The students have access to the portal, with lesson material on the individual topics and an updated reference bibliography for each topic covered.

Modalità di esame: Elaborato scritto individuale; Elaborato progettuale in gruppo;
Exam: Individual essay; Group project;
... Delivery of group work is the prerequisite for taking the exam. The evaluation of the laboratory project will weight 50% of the final mark. The evaluation of a written test will weight 50% of the final mark. The written test with open questions regarding the topics of the course and an exercise, will take about two hours. Criteria for awarding the final grade: the passing of the exam presupposes sufficient knowledge of all the topics covered in the course. Honors may be awarded to students who present personal insights, acquired independently, and who demonstrate the ability to correlate the course content with those of courses that precede it in the manifest of studies.
