1st degree and Bachelor-level of the Bologna process in Ingegneria Dell'Autoveicolo (Automotive Engineering) - Torino 1st degree and Bachelor-level of the Bologna process in Ingegneria Dell'Autoveicolo - Torino
The module aims at supplying the fundamentals of fluid-flow machines, with specific reference to constructive aspects, principles of operation, evaluation of performance and off-design operations of both the single fluid-flow machine and the energy system in which it is inserted.
Through the systematic application of the principles of thermo-fluid-dynamics to energy conversion systems and their components, the module provides the students with the ability not only to choose engines and engineering-plant solutions in relation to their applications, but also to approach and solve specific design problems by integrating the concepts acquired in the module with advanced notions on specific topics.

The applied lectures consist in solving exercises and practical problems by applying the concepts covered in the lessons. The aim of this training is to give the students the order of magnitude of the main parameters and to improve their degree of understanding.

Modalità di esame: Prova scritta (in aula); Prova orale facoltativa;
Exam: Written test; Optional oral exam;
...
The exam booking on the web portal, within the deadline, is mandatory.
The exam is made up of a written part and of a oral part. The final mark is a weighted average of the written part and oral part marks, the weights being 2/3 and 1/3, respectively.
In order to be admitted to the oral, each candidate needs at least a mark of 15/30 from the written test. Both exam parts have to be taken within the same call.

WRITTEN TEST (2 h 30 min)
The written test is made up of two parts.
The first part is composed by 15 multiple-choice questions. The questions are concerned with the theory topics, but a few of them will require the solution of short numerical problems. Each correct answer will score 2 points, each blank (not given) answer will bring 0 points, and each wrong answer will bring -0,5 points. Each question will have only one correct answer.
The maximum score for the first part is 30/30.
In the second part, the student has to solve 2 exercises, whose difficulty is similar to that of the exercises proposed during the applied lectures. Each exercise that is complete and correct, will score 15 points out of 30.
During the test the student can only use a scientific calculator and a formulary provided by the teacher.
The paper sheets for the exam will be provided by the teacher. Each sheet has to be returned at the scheduled hand-in time, or at the exam withdrawal.
The formulary will also be provided by the teacher, and it has to be returned together with the text and the classwork at the scheduled hand-in time, or at the exam withdrawal. Please, do not write on the provided formulary.
IMPORTANT: The use of any other written or blank paper, of books, slides or notes, as well as of notebooks, smart phones, cell phones or any other electronic device, is strictly forbidden. Should any candidate be caught while using un-authorized papers or electronic devices (regardless if it is switched on or off, online or offline), he or she will be immediately withdrawn from the exam and his/her name will be forwarded to the Politecnico’s Disciplinary Board for the pertinent actions.
The candidate can withdraw from the written test up to the hand-in time. In this case, the exam failure will not be registered. Once the written test has been corrected, the exam will be registered with either a positive or negative result.
Any candidate who is not satisfied about the written test result can ask to be failed before the oral start.
The exam is not passed if the score from the first written part is strictly lower than 15/30 OR the one from the second part is strictly lower than 15/30.
ORAL TEST
The oral test can be optional or mandatory, depending on the outcomes from the written one.
In order to be admitted to the oral, each candidate needs at least a mark of 15/30 from the written test.
- Students with a mark between 15 and 17 from the written test need to sit for the oral in order to pass the exam.
- Students with a mark equal to or higher than 18 can either register the exam or to sit for the oral. Note that, in the absence of an oral test, the maximum achievable score is 26/30.
The oral test will involve one question about the lectures or the applied lectures. The candidate will be asked to answer in writing, then the answer will be discussed with the examiner.
If the oral test is done, the final mark is an average between the written and the oral test marks.
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
