The aim of the course is to introduce students to the core concepts of economics, strategy, organization and accounting. The course is divided in two parts. The first part of the course will focus on the principles of economics which inform decisions concerning growth strategies, and to some principles of business organization. The second part of the course will introduce students to the fundamentals of financial accounting: they will learn what accounting information is, how it is developed in financial statements, how it is used and what it means. It will also provide students with the skills to understand the core elements of managerial accounting, including cost analysis, short and long term decision, budgeting and cost control.
The course aims to introduce students to the current challenges of working in business and organizations. Within the degree program in “Digital skills for Sustainable Societal Transition”, the course’s purpose is to develop the "human skills" of students and future workers in organizations. Students will be introduced to the broad theoretical apparatus derived from theories of organization and organizational behavior and to understand their implications in terms of management. The course will be divided into three parts. The first part will introduce the topic of "people management," inclusive of concepts fundamental to the DISST degree program, including diversity management and motivation. The second part will focus on the group dimension ("group management") to understand the fundamentals of group behavior and leadership. In the third part, we will focus on "organizational structure," with emphasis on the topics of organizational culture, change management, conflict, and negotiation. Throughout the course, and particularly through group work, students will be challenged to think about the challenges that technological and digital development poses to work within an organizational context. They will be confronted to think about the consequences of digital transformation in the workplace and reflect on social responsibility issues.
1) Knowledge and understanding ability To analyse the competitive structure of industries and to accordingly develop corporate strategies; To develop a general understanding of the accounting information; To develop a general understanding of costs behaviour for planning, controlling and decision making processes. 2) Capability to apply knowledge and understanding The course will provide the conceptual tools to face with method and critical approach the complex and dynamic reality of a corporation from the economic, organizational and accounting point of view. Several examples and exercises will be presented in class to apply theoretical concepts and tools. 3) Capability to approach the subject in a critical manner Students will be able to elaborate a personal reflection on the economic dynamics in the sector of their interest. 4) Communication abilities The dialogue with the professor and among them will allow students to develop interaction and communication capabilities. 5) Learning ability Through individual activities and study the course aims to develop the self-learning abilities of the students.

Several examples and cases will be discussed in class to apply theoretical concepts and tools to practical situations 3) Capability to approach the subject in a critical manner Thanks to the group’s works that will be held in each lesson, students will be able to elaborate on personal reflections on the current transformations that the working context is facing. They will also be challenged to think about the consequences of digital transformation in the workplace and reflect on social responsibility issues. 4) Communication abilities The dialogue with the professor and among them will allow students to develop interaction and communication capabilities. Cases will be discussed in class in each lesson to enhance students’ participation. 5) Learning ability The course aims to develop the students’ self-learning abilities through individual activities and study. The Professor will provide students with numerous cases and materials for individual study of the topics discussed in class.

The course syllabus, structure and exam will not change if it will be offered on line. The course syllabus, structure and the exam will be the same for attending and non-attending students.
As the second half of each lesson will include group discussion and debates, participation in class is strongly recommended. The exam is composed of two parts and will partially differ for attending and non-attending students.
The course will include both theory and exercises. The first part of the course is mostly theoretical, with some exercises provided as examples. The second part of the course will include both theory and exercises. Within this part of the course, the first half of each lesson will present the theoretical concept, while the second part will be addressed to exercises solutions. The course will include the use of Power point presentations and exercises with solutions which will be provided on line at the end of each lesson.

The exam tests: • the knowledge and the understanding of the models and the concepts presented in the lectures; • the capability of using models and concepts to analyse, and deal with, economic and organizational problems. The exam is a written test of both theoretical understanding and problem solving capability. Specifically, the test will include: • 10 Questions with multiple choice or True/ false questions (up to 20/30 points) • Questions with open reply requiring short essays or short exercises (up to 10/30 points)

The exam tests: • the knowledge and the understanding of the concepts and theories presented in the lectures; • the capability to use models and concepts to analyze and deal with organizational and managerial issues posed by the digital transformation The exam is composed of two parts and will partially differ for attending and non-attending students: • Attending students: o Group essay and presentation (30% of final evaluation): students will be asked to choose a topic to develop for group work. The outcome of the group work will be a written essay of maximum 5 pages including references (times new roman 12). The essay will be handed in and presented in class by all group members using PowerPoint in the last lesson of the course. Evaluation will be given to the group and not a single student. o Individual assessment (70% of final evaluation): 20 written multiple-choice questions on the theories and topics discussed in class (1 hour) • Non-attending students: o Individual essay (30% of final evaluation): students will be asked to choose a topic to develop for individual work. The outcome of the group work will be a written report of maximum 5 pages including references (times new roman 12). The essay will be handed in on the day of the individual assessment. The evaluation will be given to the single student. o Individual assessment (70% of final evaluation): 20 written multiple-choice questions on the theories and topics discussed in class (1 hour)
