The present course offers the Ph.D. students a direct and effective link to the scientific activities in the field of Physics of the Department of Applied Science and Technology and of other universities and scientific institutions in Turin, allowing them to follow a relevant number of seminars, given by guest scientists as well as by researchers and other Ph.D. students of the department and to periodically present their own research work.

No particular prerequisite is required for this course, apart from solid foundations of classical and quantum physics such as those normally provided by the degree courses that allow access to the doctorate in Physics.

The present seminar course coincides to a large extent with the series of Department Seminars, regularly planned during the whole academic year on a monthly basis, integrated by other seminars presented in academic or research institutions in Turin. The seminars that deserve to be included in the course program are chosen by the regular teacher and the collaborator. Every Ph.D. student is free to attend the seminars chosen on the basis of her/his own scientific interests (not necessarily only the ones related to the Ph.D. activity). The students are asked to attend a minimum number of seminars during their three-year Ph.D. cycle, and to present one or more seminars about their own research activities during this period. The exam is passed when the student has attended at least 12 seminars and has presented his research activity to the other Ph.D. students. When the number of attended seminars exceeds the minimum of at least 20% (i.e. starting from 14) the exam is passed with merit. The minimal requirements for the students as well as the organization details are established by the Ph.D. Lecturers Committee.
