.Quantum electrical metrology exploits quantum physics in solid-state electronic devices to advance measurement science. It is a basic topic of the Quantum Technology Flagship (2020-2030), for which the European Community has allocated 1 b€ of research funding. Quantum electrical metrology deals with the realisation of the electromagnetic units of measurement at the highest level of accuracy, the development of compact and reliable quantum meters and calibrators, the development of measurement systems having sensitivity going beyond that of classical devices. The course will focus on the quantum electrical standards (quantum Hall resistance, single-electron pumping, Josephson voltage standards), quantum theory of electrical circuits, quantum manipulation of microwave photons with superconducting devices.
.
The following specific topics will be addressed: ¿ quantum electrical standards in the New International System of Units ¿ Quantum Hall Effect ¿ Single-Electron Pumps ¿ Josephson Voltage Standard ¿ quantization of Josephson junction devices ¿ systematic quantization of a network of electric lumped-element components ¿ quantum mechanics of 1D transmission lines and resonators ¿ cavity qubit/artificial atoms systems ¿ quantum noise spectra ¿ quantum measurements ¿ reaching the Quantum Limit in practice ¿ microwaves quantum metrology intro ¿ single photons sources and detectors ¿ quantum illumination and quantum radar ¿ detectors for cosmology (axions and Cosmic Microwave Background radiation)
