The course aims to introduce an enhanced continuum mechanics that makes use of the mathematical tool known as “fractional-order calculus” to introduce an additional, material-dependent, mathematical parameter to describe physical phenomena.
The course aims to introduce an enhanced continuum mechanics that makes use of the mathematical tool known as “fractional-order calculus” to introduce an additional, material-dependent, mathematical parameter to describe physical phenomena.
The course, in the first part, will provide the basic knowledge and rules to work with fractional calculus together with the fundamental algorithms to implement numerical codes and solve initial and boundary value problems (8 hours). The second part of the course will be devoted to explore some unconventional problems of continuum mechanics in the field of linear and non-linear hereditariness, unconservative stability problems, receptor-mediated endocytosis (10 hours). Two additional hours will be devoted to review the specific problems assigned to the attendants to provide final grades and certificate of attendance
