Water plays an important role in buildings. Think about water supply coming daily to our homes: an efficient water supply system greatly contributes to quality of life and increases building sustainability.
In a context of climate changes, with long periods of water scarcity, a responsible management of water resources is mandatory also at the building scale. New trends are developing towards this goal (rain water harvesting, the use of vegetation, etc.). In this course, after covering the basic principles of hydraulics, attention will be paid to the design of the building water systems in view of a sustainable use of the water resource.

After attending the course, the student is able to understand and manage hydraulics issues related to buildings, to read technical reports and national regulations dealing with water topics, to join new trends for water smart solutions at the building scale.
After completion of the course, the student is able to:
• comrehend and evaluate different solutions about hydraulics issues related to the buildings;
• understand and interpret technical reports and national regulations dealing with water topics at the building scale;
• compare and select new trends for water smart solutions at the building scale.

During the course theoretical lessons and exercises are carried out. For practical applications the same building that is considered in other teachings will be used. Working groups are usually made by 3 persons.

Nevertheless, the course can be attended also by students that do not frequent these courses. Working groups are usually made by 3 persons.

Modalità di esame: Prova scritta (in aula); Prova orale obbligatoria; Elaborato progettuale in gruppo;
Exam: Written test; Compulsory oral exam; Group project;
...
The exam is made up by a written part (up to 30 scores) and an oral part (up to 30 scores).
The final mark is made by the average of the scores obtained in the oral and in the written part, both of which must reach 18/30.
If the mark of the written part is inferior than 18/30, the candidate is not admitted to the oral part.
The written part assesses the ability to solve problems and some basic knowledge of the subject through 2 open exercises and 3 short questions (eventually quiz). No kind of material can be used during the written part, duration 1 hour.
In the oral part, usually two questions, the design exercises and the topics carried out during all the classes are subject for the exam.
The design exercises have to be uploaded on the course page of the "portale della didattica" before the date of the written part.

The other works, carried on during the semester, don't have to be uploaded but are asked at the oral exam.
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
